Blog 2 for SCED

When I first walked into this class, I really couldn't find the point of me being there. I kept telling myself that this had nothing to do with my major of teaching Physical Education and it was just wasting my time. I would like to start this blog by apologizing. You can get something out of everything if you just try. That is something that I need to start doing a lot more.

Lately I have been enjoying working with my content area group in class. We have been able to utilize the class concepts and have been making them work with our major.  I really enjoyed the Activity one assignment. I was able to find ways to use you tube videos, handouts, and demonstrations to help students within a weight room lesson about the bench press. It wasn't just a boring lecture about it. I believe that it would make lessons more fun and intriguing to students if I utilized the activities more often.

I also have liked our lessons on conversations and getting the class to talk more to each other about the concepts being taught. They can use each other to figure out the answer and to come to conclusions instead of just always relying on me to give it to them.

I plan on continuing getting information from this class and using it in the future in my content area.

  1. Thanks for your posting, Kelsey. I agree that physical education is typically not a major where written texts are incorporated.

I think teachers also tend to have a lot of latitude in how they teach it. For example, I could see how words like "point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center"--could be legitimate vocabulary words in PE--but is the point to assess students' vocabulary knowledge or their physical skills in this area?

I appreciate your willingness to at least consider these ideas and how they apply to P.E. Thanks for being a good sport. :) And just in case you do end up teaching health, hopefully you can see more applications there.
